Virtual Instruments™ Signal Integrity (VISI) Software delivers a comprehensive set of jitter analysis tools in a remarkably easy-to-use interface that helps simplify timing, jitter and signal integrity characterizations. The software offers a flexible platform for all your test and measurement needs. Choose from one of our software modules to analyze jitter in clock, DRCG, datacom and databus applications.

As of November 2003, the current version of VISI software is 6.31 for DTS products and 7.4 for SIA products.

VISI software gives test engineers, production managers and technicians a simple, straightforward way to perform complex jitter analysis—and generate clear, concise results that help users optimize device performance faster than ever before.

Key Features include:

  • Automated setup and data analysis

  • Create customized macros

  • Recognize trends in record time

  • View multiple tools simultaneously

  • VISI software options are loaded directly into the SIA-3000. DTS series products work with VISI loaded on a computer connected via GPIB to the DTS

With VISI and one of the WAVECREST SIA-3000 family of signal integrity analyzers, you can:

  • Perform complete jitter testing with one solution
  • Use the Wizard utility to set up tools and tests automatically
  • Use the Plot Interpreter for guided troubleshooting
  • Identify trends by overlaying windows with different data patterns
  • Create macros to repeat common keystrokes easily
  • Save special settings or an entire test session with one keystrok
Reasons to Upgrade from Previous  Versions of VISI Software

VISI for SIA

VISI 7.2 to 7.4

Added Advanced PLL Analysis tool. The software tool determines PLL parameters from 2nd order PLLs such as the damping factor, natural frequency, lock range, lock-in time, pull-in time, pull-out range, noise bandwidth and power spectral density of the noise. Graphs showing the PLL transfer function, poles and zeros and Bode plot are also generated.

Improved oscilloscope GUI tool for new channel card options. Oscilloscope tool now has automated calculations for Rise Time, Fall Time, Overshoot, Undershoot, Vmax, Vmid, Vmin, Vtop, Vbase, Vpk-pk, Vamp, VRMS, VAVG, Mask Violations, Mask Comparisons, Horizontal and Vertical histograms and statistics.

Increased throughput for measurements using the High Frequency Modulation tool and Known Pattern with Marker tool.

VISI 7.1 to VISI 7.2
Added software support for PM50 pattern marker option. The PM50 option enables the user to input a data stream with a repeating pattern into an SIA-3000 channel card and obtain quantitative information on DJ, RJ, PJ, DCD&ISI and their contribution to Total Jitter. The PM50 option also has the capability to detect bit errors in the pattern. The user can view the errors and their location in the pattern. The ability to detect bit errors provides additional information about low probability errors, BER, and pattern dependent errors. Bit error counting can be performed at distinct frequencies in pattern match mode.
Added updates to the plot interpreter so all tools have the most common data set descriptions
Added explorer tool for easy file transfer
Added the capability to run VISI on any PC and control the SIA-3000
Added software support for gate mode and external 10 MHz source
VISI 7.0 to  VISI 7.1
Added multichannel support for Datacom, Histogram and Stripchart tools
Added support for the OE-2 and the DSM products

Added new channel selection menu for one-step channel selection
Added plot interpreter for a guide in understanding data. Included a Wizard to guide the user in acquiring data. Added calculator and Wordpad to toolbar and added the ability to access updates to online documentation.
Added the ability to analyze DDR signals
Added first order low pass filter to High Frequency Modulation tool in order to obtain RJ over a user defined bandwidth
Added sparse Tail Fit option in Known Pattern with Marker to improve throughput efficiency
VISI 7.0
Initial software release for the SIA-3000

VISI for DTS

VISI 6 to VISI 6.3
Added Auto-scale function to oscilloscope tool.
Improved user channel selection menu.
Improved Tail fit criteria selection to allow the user to select the number of tail fits to be performed.
Updated menu structure for ease of navigation.
Support added for OE-2 product.
VISI 5 to VISI 6
VISI 5 had separate windows opening for each tool. In VISI 6 the tools are all inside one application.
Changing view or plot preference in VISI 5 erased the acquired data. VISI 6 acquires all data for all plots (for a tool) and allows the user to toggle between views without reacquiring measurements.
Measurements/data/plots can be saved and recalled as a set of data in VISI 6. This allows users to zoom, scale, add markers and turn on filters all on stored results. In VISI 5, the only "data" that could be saved were basic plot coordinates, or a screen shot bitmap of the plot.
In addition to recalling data, in VISI 6 similar plots can be overlayed (so that data from a "golden part" could be compared to a current measurement).
VISI 6 offers a greatly improved menu structure. Features are logically located in appropriate topics for quick setup.
VISI 6 allows the user to put text (such as part number, lot number, or notes) on plot or summary page.
In VISI 6, macros allow the user to record keystroke sequences (or program using VB scripts).
VISI 3.2 to VISI 5
Tail-fit was added (separate random and deterministic jitter)
Datacom as we know it today, did not exist in 3.2x. Known pattern with marker was put into VISI 5 (improved algorithms)
