Title

The Methodologies for Jitter and Signal Quality Specification (MJSQ) enhances the jitter and signal specifications found in the Fibre Channel Physical layer standards and in the technical report Methodologies for Jitter Specification (MJS). It provides extended definitions and test methodologies to enable more effective execution of specifications relating to the phase timing features of high speed signals. The detailed methodologies found in MJSQ describe step-by-step how to efficiently measure and analyze jitter at the Gamma T compliance point using Wavecrest's products.

Fibre Channel Application Note

With the tremendous increase of data traffic, Signal Integrity is an important consideration when designing and testing Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet systems. Fibre Channel (FC) and Gigabit Ethernet (GBE) are protocols used to transfer data.

Fibre Channel is used for data transfer between components and servers in Storage Area Networks such as RAID systems, JBODs, workstations and servers.

Gigabit Ethernet is used to transfer data in local area networks. For both FC and GBE data rates excede 1 Gb/s and the need to characterize these high-speed devices are crucial for interoperability and reliability.

A WAVECREST Signal Integrity Analysis solution used with GigaView software makes an excellent analysis test suite for design, debug, characterization and production test of FC/GBE systems and components.

Measurements from FC or GBE Specifications that the
SIA performs include:

Total jitter of cables and connectors

Total jitter of the driver and receiver

Total jitter separation into DJ, RJ, and PJ at all compliance points

Jitter measurements on optical and electrical components
